![]() ![]() The player is given a choice: Wear armor that breaks easy and lose resolve disallowing relic use, or wear no armor, equip a weapon which doesn't break, and use all that resolve to stack up permanent effects that stay with that heir until they die.I've had resolve as high as 381%(no armor, high resolve, bonus resolve from skills, a couple of resolve runes, and a couple of the resolve bargain relics, not to mention the relic cost skill), and still had the health I started with, yet drop to 99% and you begin to lose health. ![]() Whether carrying a five pound plate or a forty five pound in their arms in real life, a person can take the same number of punches for the most part, but they WOULD move slower. It seems to me to work like a sort of encumbrance system, but instead of losing mobility, you lose health.I know at some point armor and weapons stopped dinging me as much on resolve, but the players aren't given enough knowledge of how the system works to give them a clear idea of how to mitigate loss. The texts on the subject(even the stone sign in the market) aren't clear enough on when resolve loss is mitigated by carry weight.Right? And, I mean following the real meaning of resolve. Wouldn't killing enemies naturally increase resolve? I mean, if you're in battle and you just slaughtered 25 guys, you're feeling pretty invincible, like resolve at 1000%.If my king sent me into battle naked against an army clad in gilded armor with silvery swords thrust into the air, I'm noping the eff outta there! So, having MORE and BETTER equipment would naturally INCREASE resolve. I've read in a journal or memory somewhere talking about how they should just send their troops into battle to increase their resolve. It basically works as a weakness of body, not of mind, in RL2. You're not unsure of what you, the player, has to do when you have low resolve(less than 100%), you just have less tools to accomplish your goals. This is counter to how resolve works in the game. defines resolve as "Firmness of purpose or intent determination." This means a higher resolve means you are more sure of what you have to do, and how you have to do it.So, here are some points against resolve as a mechanic. I have been critical of how useless most armor and weapons have become, but never expounded on resolve, which is where I really think armor and weapons lose most of their luster. I have been thinking about resolve for some time. ![]()
